We're heading up to Massachusetts this weekend to show our support (and legs) at the Christmas in July 5K (and hopefully burn some beer calories in the process).
And while we will be taking it easy pre-race we'll be happily indulging in Massachusetts beer post - we've even read it's good for you.
So this weekend we suggest running first and then heading to one of these great beer events:

With Father's Day this weekend, you have your work cut out for you: teach your dad how to make beer, make a batch of our World's Greatest Dad Light (the recipe's in the book), and most importantly, drink some Father's-Day-appropriate beer with your dad.
When you're not busy doing all of those things, however, stretch your legs and get out to one of the great beer events in your town. And bring Dad along!

While we love drinking beer and eating good food for the heck of it, we also love any and every opportunity to learn about what we're consuming - where it's sourced, how it's made, and how it impacts our society, if at all.
This weekend, a number of events across the country are combining these forces by offering tastings along with Q&A sessions, history lessons, and delicious food pairings to whet your palate for... well, more beer. There's nothing like showing off your new beer knowledge for friends and dates, though they'd probably prefer that you just finish your pint and shut up. Cheers!

San Francisco Beer Week went off without a hitch on Friday, and we're here to join the party!
Tonight we'll be hosting our beer making and cooking class with the fine folks at Hands On Gourmet, and we hope you've already booked your tickets! The next day, play hooky with your loved one and spend the day showing off your beer and food pairing skills at Magnolia Brewery's Oyster Extravaganza. Starting at 11am, the Haight St. pub will be shucking oysters like crazy, preparing them in a variety of ways, and providing plenty of beer to wash them down with. If oyster aphrodesia hasn't hit you by now, David Walker from Firestone Brewing Company is posting up at City Beer for a sipping session and treat tasting (treats courtesy of Pinkie's Bakery) from 6 to 9pm. No Valentine? No problem! Lagunitas Brewing Company's Tony Magee is heading to McTeague's Saloon on Polk St. at 7pm for a night of Blues and Beers. Drown your sorrows in Lagunitas brew while listening to Magee's acoustic blues, or use this night as an opportunity to strike up a convo with other singles and find a date for next year's Valentine's Day.
If you can't commit to a certain day, there are plenty of activities going on all week long that you can drop into once or thrice. Delarosa's Rare Beer and Food Pairing event melds the minds of Chef Ruggero Gadaldi and Master Cicerone Rich Higgins for eight days of half plate/half beer options and special beer-based cocktails. Three of Pizza Antica's locations have also joined in the fun by teaming up with Russian River Brewing Company to offer craft brews to be paired with an assortment of Antica's crispy Roman-style pizza. You can never go wrong with pizza and beer. Finally, Humphry Slocombe is offering a rotating selection of local beer ice cream between now and February 19, with beer sundae specials going all week. Perfect for that undying sweet tooth!

Even though Winter doesn't officially start until December 22nd, and we're having a freakish mini-warmth spell here in Brooklyn, it's a perfectly appropriate time to start gravitating (hah!) toward those big Winter ales and the likes. There are plenty of reasons to be envious of our German friends overseas -- a robust economy, a sprawling and efficient infrastructure, public healthcare -- but as September draws to a close, we find ourselves particularly green in the eyes. Yeah verily, in keeping with a 201 year-old tradition, Munich is home to yet another Oktoberfest.
"O' zapft is!" cried Christian Ude, the Mayor of Munich, tapping the first keg at noon this past Saturday as a 12-gun salute resonated through the streets. And while we can't promise the same level of ado (it is, after all, a 201 year old German beer festival), we've rounded up a slew of weekend activities for the festive beer lovers outside Munich city limits. As an added bonus, until the last drop of Munich-brewed beer is drunk on October 3rd, you can finally wear those lederhosen you bought on your post-high school eurotrip (if anyone asks, you're a German expat).
