Girl Scout Cookie & Beer Pairing

Beer News Mashup - March 25, 2013

Is there anything more deliciously wholesome than a box of Girl Scout Cookies? What about a deliciously wholesome box of Girl Scout cookies and the perfectly paired beer? Sounds even better, doesn't it? The Girl Scouts of the USA have been selling these cookies since 1917 to raise funds for their various troops, selling over 200 million boxes a year. So let's raise a glass while raising money for a great cause!

With cookie season gearing up, we've paired each of our favorite Girl Scout cookies with the perfect beer for an unbeatable snack. Whether you're a Thin Mints kind of person, or you think nothing beats the Samoas, we've got you covered. However, if you're still not convinced these are the best pairings, Cevercería de MateVeza, the San Francisco brewery and café, has been brewing their very own Girl Scout Cookie-inspired ales.

  1. Eat: Thin Mints / Drink: Bootlegger's Brewery - Mint Chocolate Porter

    Yeah, we know that winter just ended, but we're giving it one last tribute before we remember that the heat we longed for is really unbearable. We've paired everyone's favorite Girl Scout cookie with a slightly more obscure brew. Based in Fullerton, California, Bootlegger's winter seasonal beer is their Mint Chocolate Porter. Brewed with roasted chocolate malt and mint, this one seemed like a perfect complement to Thin Mints.

  2. Eat: Samoas / Drink: Maui Brewing Co. - CoCoNut Porter

    @MauiBrewingCo | 6 % ABV

    Made with real, hand-toasted coconut, the CoCoNut Porter out of Hawaii's Maui Brewing Co. would pair perfectly with this indulgent cookie of coconut, caramel, and chocolate perfection. With such a sweet cookie, the CoCoNut Porter's robust, dark coffee and chocolate flavors will balance out the cookie's sugar while also highlighting the natural coconut flavors. Sounds like a match made in tropical paradise.

  3. Eat: Tagalongs / Drink: Brooklyn Brew Shop - Peanut Butter Porter

    @bklynbrewshop | 7 % ABV

    Peanut butter and chocolate—a classic American combination. With such a perfect combo already in place, we wanted to make sure we didn't mess up something special, which is why we went with our very own Peanut Butter Porter (recipe available in our Beer Making Book). Our Peanut Butter Porter mixes caramel and chocolat malts with real, natural peanut butter to produce a beer that's as cozy and comforting as these classic cookies.

  4. Eat: Dulce de Leche / Drink: Revolution Brewing Company - Mad Cow

    @RevBrewChicago |7.7 % ABV

    Dulce de Leche, surely one of the more delicious dessert topping out there, has found a welcome home on the Girl Scout cookie roster. So to keep with the sweet milk theme, try pairing a Dulce de Leche with Revolution Brewing Co.'s Mad Cow, a milk stout with smooth caramel and charcoal flavors that's made with real lactose to leave a lingering finish. A perfect milky match for this sweet Latin treat.

  5. Eat: Lemonades / Drink: Brooklyn Brewery - Sorachi Ace

    @BrooklynBrewery | 7.6% ABV

    Brooklyn Brewery's single-hop farmhouse saison is brewed with citrusy Sorachi Ace hops, making it a perfect pairing with the tangy, lightly iced Lemonade cookies. Pairing these two results in a refreshing burst of lemon on all fronts. Makes us yearn for Spring and Summer nights drinking lemonade on the porch.
