Hop Profile: Pacific Jade

We love the fresh, citrusy notes that New Zealand's Pacifc Jade hops bring to the nose of a beer. We also love the slight peppery kick it brings to the taste, especially in our Jalapeño Saison. Mainly used as a bittering hop, Pacific Jade imparts bold orange and fresh ground pepper aromas that work well to balance out sweeter ales and drier lagers.

  1. ORIGIN

A relatively new hop on the scene, Pacific Jade was released from the New Zealand Hop Research Program in 2004. A cross between the New Zealand variety First Choice and Saazer Male, Pacific Jade flourishes in New Zealand where no known hops diseases exist.

  3. CHARACTERISTICS

Due to its high alpha acidity, Pacific Jade is often used as a bittering hop, but its bold aroma of fresh citrus and spicy pepper makes for a great late boil addition as well. Pacific Jade has great versatility and can be added to all kinds of styles ranging from ales to lagers to barleywines, delivering a soft bitterness to the flavor.
