Cooking with Beer

Updated on March 22, 2014

We don't just like making and drinking beer - we love cooking with it too! When added to your favorite appetizers, entrees, and even desserts, beer adds a whole new level of flavor and complexity to standby recipes. It can also inspire you to try something new - like swapping wine for beer in mussels, taking a hoppy approach to cocktails or adding some stout our porter to homemade ice cream.

We have way more fun cooking with beer when we also have a beer in hand, so pick up a few bottles and try your hand at our five favorite beer-infused recipes from the past year:

  1. Beer Soaked Grilled Cheese

Is there any other sandwich that says comfort like a grilled cheese? This beer soaked version marries brown ale (like our Chestnut Brown Ale) and cheddar to thick slices of sourdough for something deliciously sweet and sharp.

  2. Coconut Porter Brussels Sprouts

Even if you need a little convincing on this tiny cabbage, we trust you'll head straight to the kitchen once you find out that our succulent version is made with Chocolate Maple Porter, coconut and shallots. It's a revelation, and you'll never see sprouts the same way again.

  3. Beer Queso

Beer-filled dips warm our hearts (and stomachs). We love the consistency of this queso - it's creamy and smooth with some heat - and it's made with our Jalapeño Saison to boot. More heat optional - just add extra peppers!

  4. Peanut Butter Porter Ice Cream Cake

This creamy, frozen delight will make you want to throw a party just because! Sandwiched between peanut butter cup topping and Nutter Butter crust, every slice is packed with Chocolate Maple Porter, peanut butter and ice cream.

  5. Ultimate Beer Burger

Every part of this burger is packed with beer - from the stout-spiked patty and Hop Mayo, to Beer Bacon & Onion Jam, to Spent Grain Burger Buns. It's best served with a cold beer, naturally.
